End of the Year HyperDocs: Bringing Closure for All
Endings matter. And this might just be our craziest one yet. Teaching is a unique profession because we have a very clear beginning and an ending. This year feels like a blur. We are in the process of reimagining what the end of the 2019-2020 school year will look like. And as always, the teacher is at the center of creating that experience. You did not say goodbye to your students. You did not get that final chance to say, “I’m proud of you.” You did not get to plan for what the next day or week or month would be like. You did not get to host your traditional activities. You did, however, get a chance to work with your kids for ~6-7 months prior to the shelter in place mandates. Your students spent time in your classroom community, and that deserves some acknowledgment as well. Many of you have leaned on the relationships you had already established with your students, to help support them at home. Be proud of that.
If you are like me, you are feeling short-changed. I have been feeling let down to not have the opportunity to celebrate student growth in the same ways I might normally. How do you typically end your school year? Field days, class parties, distributing diplomas, signing yearbooks, movie watch parties, words of wisdom, and hugs. I hear teachers working to discover new methods of bringing creativity and closure to this year, in ways that feel meaningful without actually being together. How will you end your remote school year?

We have curated a collection of digital opportunities for you to bring a sense of closure to this crazy! This collection will include HyperDoc lessons to: reflect on the year, manage transitions, host a reimagined field day, or just have some good ol’ fashioned end of the year fun - virtually, of course!
Please remember that not all HyperDoc lessons will be ready for you to use right away. Check out the links within the lesson to be sure it is appropriate for your students. You’ll also want to give credit to the original HyperDoc designer when you remix. Changing some of the content/wording will be necessary for remote learning. Also, remember to have fun!

Take comfort in all the quality instruction you provided for your students prior to the pandemic, and know that your whole year does not need to be summarized to this final few months. We also acknowledge and honor the students who have had a difficult learning environment throughout this pandemic and realize that this ending doesn’t need to be “happy.” We just wish to bring effective closure.
